Project Narrative:
When coming up with the design, I wanted to keep the existing amenities that were being used intact. That consisted of mostly everything in the park,  it is a pretty lively area. Incorporating the concept of time into the design was a natural part of the process, as all parks evolve through seasonal changes, weather patterns, and human use. Considerations such as shade, microclimate, and circulation were addressed to ensure that the park remains inviting, accessible, and environmentally friendly throughout the year. Also, there is something to do for all ages, so the park ages with you.

Additional designs, such as the football field, a skate park, and a BMX track, open areas for a younger demographic, but are welcoming for all ages. In contrast to the high-activity zones, the design also incorporates spaces dedicated to restoration and slower-paced engagement. The bike loop provides a calm, continuous route through the site, while shaded paths around the fountains and pond offer opportunities for reflection, walking, or a nice jog.  Or you can take a seat and listen to the water and noises of the world. These quieter environments contrast the energy of the athletic areas, giving the community many places to choose from.

Site Context:

Site Overview
The site of Udall Park sits on the east side of Tucson. It is a recreational park with a rec center, soccer fields, pickleball courts, a dog park, baseball and softball fields, and a walking path that goes around and throughout the site. It is a very lively park that always seems full of life. It was built in an area that is surrounded by neighborhoods, giving the community a place to thrive. All outside amenities are free to the public, but the recreational center requires a membership to use the indoor amenities. Getting to tour the rec center was a very welcoming experience. They want to show others how much they love the place and community they belong to, so it encourages others to join as well.

Parti:

This Parti diagram represents the changing of the seasons and how they flow continuously into each other. The unity knot in the center represents the fact that the park works in unity with Mother Nature.
